Sebastiaan Schilperoort
‘Personal growth’
Sebastiaan Schilperoort (31) is design engineer at Fokker Aerostructures.
“Working at Fokker Aerostructures means you’re working on building a good base”, says design engineer Sebastiaan Schilperoort. “You get excellent supervision, and you can learn a lot here.“ Sebastiaan should know, because he’s been working at Fokker for more than seven years. He started after completing his HTS (Higher Technical Education) studies in aerospace technology in Haarlem. “As a design engineer I work in different project teams on designing aircraft components. The contacts with customers on location, both in the Netherlands and in other countries, and communicating with people in other disciplines, make the work enjoyable and varied.
Especially in the first five years I learned a lot by being involved in all the phases of a project and seeing what happens with a design. Last year I noticed that my job was becoming less challenging, and I began to feel I wanted to do something different. I told my manager, and after a number of discussions we decided I was ready to start preparing for a management position. But to qualify for that I had to take a course in higher business administration. Now I just have one more module to do and then I’ll have my diploma. It’s not just the personal development possibilities that are well organized at Fokker Aerostructures, the conditions of employment are also good. In my view Fokker is a company that looks after its people well in every respect.”
